Use Webcasting to Grow Your Home Business~The Latest Innovation in Online Marketing & Business Development
By Dr. Jeffrey Lant

Looking around for ways to increase your sales and make more money?

Of course you are. It's what we all do in business — or we're out of business. One of the smartest things you can do this year to increase your sales is to start webcasting.

If you looked at webcasting, say, a year or two ago, you probably dismissed the technology as rudimentary and the cost as so pricey only the “big guys" could afford it. Well, baby, things changed dramatically in the webcasting industry in 2004 — so much so that I can safely predict webcasting is in your future. Let's take a good close look at its advantages.

For Openers, What Is Webcasting Anyway?

Webcasting is the ability for you to speak live (and through recorded messages) to people worldwide using your computer. Thanks to webcasting, you can actually see the person you're speaking to and talk live in real time without that person having to spend a single penny to speak with you. This has incredible implications for the growth and development of your business.

What Equipment Do You Need?

Aside from your computer, you need very few tools to get started webcasting. In fact, webcasting is so easy now, you could get started today.

* High-Speed Internet Access. As of last October, when the latest statistics became available, 53 percent of U.S. homes already have high-speed access.

* Web Cam. Available in any computer department, you can get a perfectly decent one for just $20-$40. Newer computer models, by the way, have web cams built in, thus confirming that the computer companies firmly see webcasting as the wave of the future.

* Head Set. This may already be built into your computer if you have a newer model. If not, you can get a good head set for $15-$25.

* Webcast Services. The cost is directly dependent on what services you get, with prices all over the map. It pays to shop around and to be very clear on what you get for your money. However, the good news is that prices fell sharply in 2004 as competition within the industry and technology improvement took hold.

So, What Can Webcasting Do For Your Business?

Webcasting literally throws opens the window, creating dazzling new marketing possibilities for you. The great thing about webcasting is that it gives you your own network to develop and the sky's the limit when it comes to dreaming up new marketing and communications ideas.

For instance, webcasting gives you the ability to create unlimited commercial and business messages. Who's the most knowledgeable person in your business when it comes to your products and services? Chances are, it's YOU!

With webcasting, you can come into your own as the spokesperson for anything you're selling. You can sit down in front of your web cam and, literally as easy as 1-2-3, record a message of 1-60 minutes in length (5-10 minutes is a good length) on anything you're selling.

Look right into your web cam and talk normally. Tell about what the product is, explain what the benefits are, and make a sizzling offer. You can do it all when you're webcasting. To conclude your video presentation, click a button. Then click another button and create a link. Now turn your sizzling webcast presentation into gold by including the link in your correspondence.

* Your Online Newsletter (called ezine).

* Your Stationery File. Now every email you send out can include a link to one of your hot product videos!

* Online Media Releases. Every single media release you ever create can feature a video by you talking directly about the substance of your release, be that a new product, service, event, etc.

There's lots more uses for webcast videos! Got a web site? Record a welcome video. In this video (remember you're talking directly now to your visitors), give an overview of what's on your site, the products and services you have available, how to subscribe to your ezine (if you have one), and any special offers you're making.

Remember, the great thing about videos is that they are easy to record and easy to change. Like I said, recording a video is literally as easy as 1-2-3!

Use Videos In Your Catalogs!

One spectacular use of videos is the video catalog. I know. Check out the one I did for my books at www.jeffreylant.com/books. Say you've got 10 products. What do you think packs more of a wallop? 10 standard product descriptions? Or descriptions spiced up by live videos? Thanks to webcasting, you can sit down and record a video of any length for each and every one of your products and services.

Webcasting gives you the opportunity to talk honestly and at any length you want (not like a 30-second radio commercial) about the products and services you've created. Share the love!

Home business professionals are, to a person, expert in the creation of whatever they sell. Now with webcasting, they can let their prospects and customers see who they are and learn a ton of useful information about what they have and what it can do. Webcasting builds customer rapport, and we all know just how important that is!

Other Smart Video Uses

Unless you've been living in a cave, you know that the efficacy and pulling-power of email has greatly diminished. Video to the rescue! When you've got webcast services, you can create powerful messages that get results.

* Prospect Messages. Now instead of just plain text, you can add persuasive video messages.

* Messages for Folks Not Answering Your Emails. This is a big problem, and video email helps you solve it. Now instead of just using email to ask people to respond, insert a powerful video message from yourself. Video gets results!

* Messages for Customers Owing Money. We all hate collecting overdue accounts, but video messages add punch to the "pay up or else" communications we all have to send.

Using Webcasting To Hold Online Meetings

One of my favorite uses of webcasting is holding online meetings. For one thing, it's slashed my phone bill to just about nothing. When you have webcast services, you can hold meetings. The service you get will determine how many people you can meet with at a time, but look for a cap at about 150 people at a time. We all know that's a very big meeting.

When you can webcast, you have the ability to talk live to your prospects and customers worldwide. If they have webcast services, you can bring them on screen and talk face-to-face. If they don't have webcast services, you can talk to them using video, and they can respond using either audio or typing in their remarks.

Here are just some of the business-building things you can do when you've got the ability to webcast online meetings:

* Make deals: All home-business professionals need to make lots of different kinds of deals. Now thanks to webcasting, you can meet live with the people you must negotiate with, even if one's in London, the next in Melbourne, and you're sitting pretty in Tampa. Webcasting brings the world together and makes you the negotiating diva you always wanted to be.

* Deliver exemplary customer service: Let's face it. Customer service is more talked about than delivered. When you've got webcasting, that all changes. Now you can answer prospect questions and handle any matter live and in living color. Again, this is part of that crucial rapport-building that's essential in successful business.

* Provide training: Up until the advent of webcasting, the Internet was pretty much a training wasteland. Now webcasting, especially when you've got a meeting room that can hold a good number of people at a time, enables you to provide incredible training — not just live, but recorded. (Make sure the webcast services you get do not just allow you to host meetings, but also allow you to record them. That way, no one will ever miss even one of your golden words.)

Webcast meeting services vary, depending on what kinds of meetings you need to hold in your business. For instance, top-of-the-line webcast service providers have professional seminar systems that give you 24/7 access with up to 150 participants at a time. These professional presentations can be recorded and can even feature PowerPoint slides or slides you create yourself for use and re-use. There are even services which enable you to rent to others all the time you don't use and bring in extra bucks.

Last Words

The advantages of webcasting, as you can see from even this brief report, are incredible. So incredible, in fact, that you can be SURE you'll be using webcasting to grow your business REAL soon! Webcasting, as it now stands (and with new applications certain to develop), is fast, easy and (if you shop around) inexpensive. Whether you're selling locally, nationally, or internationally, it offers unbeatable benefits. Like they say, once you start webcasting, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. HBM
